Bachelor of Science (honours) in Information Systems and Information Technology - Dublin Institute of Technology.

In September 2017 I commenced studying a part time degree in Information Systems and Information Technology at Dublin Institute of Technology. The first year modules I have studied are:

Semester 1:

Information Systems in Organisations
The strategy part of the course, this module is concerned with how organisations can use Information Systems to achieve Competitive Advantage and explores modelling techniques, design issues, hardware, software applications, how systems development and systems security are relevant to organisations, and how information systems support the organisation.
Computer Technology 1
Computer Technology 1 encompasses the technical aspects of hardware, software and the features surrounding them. This module explores the operation and design of typical, modern digital computers such as desktops, servers and mainframes. The module includes an introduction to different number systems and how at the basic level the computer works in binary. Digital circuits based on logic gates are covered.
Programming and Algorithms 1
Programming and Algorithms 1 is an introduction to programming, program design and algorithms, using Python. Students are taught the fundamentals of programming and the principles of good program design, implementation, documentation and testing.

Semester 2:

Interface Design and Web Development
This module introduces the technologies and provides the student with the skills necessary for client side web development. The module develops in the student a theoretical understanding of the software development lifecycle as an engineering discipline. The module also provides the theoretical knowledge and practical experiences in the fundamental aspects of analysing, designing and evaluating user interfaces based on sound HCI principles.
Computing Fundamentals 1
This module presents the essential mathematics of computer science which is necessary to support and enhance other modules on the course. The topics covered on this module are required in computer technology, database systems, software engineering, programming, knowledge representation, and algorithms. The module covers the basics of discrete mathematics including logic, sets, relations and functions. The material is presented using languages and software that emphasise the computer science aspects of discrete mathematics.
Programming Paradigms And Data Structures
The aim of this module is to introduce the student to a number of intermediate issues in the design and development of algorithms. The student will be given an introduction to a range of programming paradigms and prototypical languages associated with each paradigm. Common programming language issues such as memory allocation, and parameter passing will be examined. The module assumes the student has a preliminary understanding of programming design.

At the time of writing, March 2018, the course so far has been thoroughly enjoyable, challenging and rewarding. The demands of working full time and studying part time can be hard to balance but, in itself, studying efficiently in limited time is a skill worth mastering.

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants - Griffith College, Dublin.

From August 2006 to June 2010, I took the ACCA exams for which I had not been granted exemptions for on the basis of my previous studies.

Bachelor of Business Studies (honours) in Accounting - Institute of Technology, Tallaght

During the academic year 2005/06, I obtained an Honours Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

National Diploma in Professional Accounting - Athlone Institute of Technology

After sitting my Leaving Cert in 1999, I studied Accounting at Athlone Institute of Technology from 1999 to 2002 and obtained the contemporaneous equivalent of a level 7 degree.
